Principal's Message

Dear Potrero Families,

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year!

Potrero Heights has been busily preparing for your children all summer!

Academic excellence is the focus at Potrero Heights Elementary. We provide opportunities for students to learn through the use of various research-based instructional strategies tailored to meet student needs. Teachers meet collaboratively to plan lessons in accordance with the Common Core State Standards which focus on academic rigor, quality, and data-driven instruction. You can be assured that your child is receiving a high-caliber education and is surrounded by teachers who truly care about his/her well-being.

Beginning on Monday, August 20, students will start their first day of school and have a full day schedule. School will commence at 8:15 and be dismissed at 2:30. Every Wednesday, all students are on minimum day schedule and are dismissed at 1:15.

Good attendance is an important part of being a responsible student. Please make sure to bring your child to school on time each day. School starts at 8:15 daily. We ask that you allow ample time for dropping off your children due to heavy traffic. Please send a note to school or call the school office at 626-307-7010 when your child is absent and explain the reason for the absence. Doctor and dental visits should be scheduled after school hours.

Parental support and involvement is a key component to our school’s success. Working with your child’s teacher and keeping open lines of communication is the best way for parents to track their children’s progress. Any questions that you may have about your child’s progress, homework or behavior should first be directed to your child’s teacher. Feel free to call the school office to leave a message for the teacher or send a note to the teacher to set an appointment. Our teachers are caring and committed to helping your child have a positive school experience.

Your ongoing participation and support will make a significant difference in helping your child be successful in school. There are many opportunities for parental involvement, such as our Parent Teacher Association, School Site Council, Title I Advisory Committee, English Learner Advisory Committee, and classroom volunteers. I encourage you to join and get involved. Please check our website for meeting dates and times.

I look forward to a successful school year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Atoyan, Principal
